Markha Valley trek is one of the most popular trekking destination in Ladakh, northern India. Often called the “tea house trek,” this is an amazing trip that introduces you to the magical and remote Buddhist Kingdom of Ladakh. On this 9-day expedition, traverse through the ancient silk route of the trans-Himalaya connecting the mysterious civilization of Tibet to Central Asia. Look forward to admiring beautiful Buddhist monasteries, exploring quaint mountain villages, marveling at Nimaling’s high altitude pastures, and being stunned by Kangyatse’s high altitude peak.

Throughout the trip, you will be led by a passionate and knowledgeable guide and receive great hospitality from the team at RockyFeet.org. Camping and hiking equipment is provided as are meals. This is a fabulous hike for anyone wanting to explore the trans-Himalayan region.

Adventure Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Day
• Arrival at Leh
• After lunch, visit Leh Palace & Shanti stupa
• In the evening, receive a briefing of the itinerary
• Stay at Leh

Day 2: Acclimatization Day
• Visit Hemis, Shey & Thiksey: 3 monasteries practicing the old culture of Ladakhi Buddhism
• Stay overnight at Leh

Day 3: Trekking Day
• Early morning drive from Leh to Chiling (55 km)
• 3-4 hour trek from Chilling (3200 m) to Skiu (3400 m)

Day 4: Trekking Day
• 5-6 hour from Skiu to Markha trek
• Camp at Markah (3700 m)

Day 5: Trekking Day
• 5-6 hour trek from Markha to Thochungtse
• Stay at camp site (4200 m)

Day 6: Trekking Day
• 6-7 hour trek from Thochungtse to Mt. Kang Yatse (6240m) Base Camp
• Stay at BC camp site (4720 m)

Day 7: Trekking Day
• 2-3 hours trek from Mt. Kang Yatse Base Camp to Nimaling (4700 m)

Day 8: Trekking Day
• 7-8 hour trek from Nimaling to Shang Shumdo (3730 m)
• Via Kongmaru La (5130 m) and Chuskirmo (4140 m)
• Drive down to Leh

Day 9: Departure Day
• Drop off at the airport / hotel / bus stand
• Say good bye to Leh
