Why we like it ...

With a stunning panoramic view of Oman’s ‘Grand Canyon’, this is an incredible adventure for all.

The professional guides from Twenty3 Extreme will lead you on this amazing adventure and give you instructions on abseiling.

The hike is not extremely difficult but the views are breathtaking. Follow the old route around the inside of Oman's ‘Grand Canyon’ towards the recently abandoned village of Sap Bani Khamis. Above the village is a spring-fed lake where you can have a refreshing dip, or enjoy your lunch under the shade of a cave while enjoying the views. The route back is essentially the reverse route; this means you will enjoy those spectacular views from another angle. The gentle descent enjoyed in the morning is balanced by the little harder effort on the way back.

Where: Up on Jebel Shams in the Western Hajar range; this is the tallest mountain in Oman with a summit of just over 3000m. The climate is cooler and the views over the edge of Oman's very own ‘Grand Canyon’ are exceptional.

When: With a 3-hour drive from the Muscat, leaving at 6 AM, and after gearing up on site, plan to begin the Balcony walk trek by 9 AM. It will take about 2 hours to reach the abandoned village and another two hours to hike back.

With a break for lunch around midday, expect to be back in Muscat by early evening.
