It’s Khareef (monsoon) time! Get ready to be awed by Salalah’s wadis, mountains, and sinkholes. The professional guides from Twenty3 Extreme will lead you on this amazing adventure.
Day 1 - Thursday: Arrive and enjoy a lovely evening at the hotel.
Day 2 – Friday: Begin with a hike in Wadi Hinna. This jungle is home to exotic trees like Frankincense and Baobab. You did read it right! Baobabs grow there. The largest one in the area has a 30m-tall trunk with a diameter of 15m! Keep an eye out for delicate weaver bird nests, frankincense trees, and so much more.
For lunch, transfer to Tawi Atair, a 210m deep sinkhole famous for its diverse bird life. The walk to the viewpoint is stunning; it’s a perfect place to relax and spot birds such as the Yemen Serin, Short-toed Snake Eagle, and Eastern Imperial Eagle to just name a few.
In the afternoon, feel like Indiana Jones trying to decipher hidden meaning in ancient drawings and old Arabic writings, scrambling through ancient sites, and, if lucky, enjoying the springs that feed Wadi Darbut. Tired and excited, head to the hotel for a relaxing evening in cool temperatures with the occasional rainfall.
Day 3 – Saturday: Wake up with the sunrise, fuel yourself with breakfast, and get ready to conquer the largest sinkhole in the region, Tayq Khaf. It is so big and difficult to go in; the steep walls seem impossible to descend. Follow your instructor through a hidden route to the bottom of the sinkhole, enjoy stunning views from the best angles, and explore the wildlife. The route is steep and exposed at places; a head for heights is definitely required!
Break for lunch at the bottom of the bowl, explore the caves, and start heading back. The way up makes you work a little bit harder as you have to climb all the way back out where you came from. This adventure is challenging both physically and mentally, but the views and experience are completely worth it! The journey ends here with a transfer to the airport to catch your flight.
