The Angry Lion Epilepsy Awareness Expedition
Dear Explorers! Before we begin, I would like to THANK YOU for your support, your time reading our Epilepsy Warrior stories, your feedback, and your donations. I am happy to announce that the ub-cool team and I are ready for our next challenge – The Angry Lion Expedition to Tanzania! It is a life-changing expedition organized by our friends, Husaak Adventures. Our adventure commences on May 12th and consists of a mixture of hikes and game drives where we will see the rich wildlife at the Serengeti National Park, the massive Ngorongoro crater, and the thousand-year-old baobab trees. Following this, we will hike 80 km through remote Maasai villages, wadis, and mountains; and, lastly, to bring our adventure to an exciting end, we will climb Oldonyo Lengai – a live volcano! By joining the expedition and climbing Oldonyo Lengai, we hope to highlight our message and draw significant attention to this sensitive medical condition: “epileptics are normal people who need every bit of medical support so that they can overcome all challenges posed by their condition and lead normal lives”.
Husaak Adventures is run by Arwa Abulhasan and Ali Husain, and their goal is to re-introduce the culture of exploration to the Arabian Gulf society. Their expeditions encompass philanthropy, educating and exposing people to the beauty of nature in remote locations, and encouraging them to protect it; thus, they are happy to support us in our attempts to raise epilepsy awareness. For more information about our expedition please visit www.husaak.com or instagram.
We are continuing to raise money for the Society for the Advancement of Epilepsy Research at the University of Bonn, run by Professor Christian Elger. All money raised will be spent on:
- Improvement of the diagnostic equipment at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
- Increasing trips of experts (epileptologists, neurologists, etc) to Addis Ababa for educational and treatment advice
- Educating physicians, EEG assistants, and other medical staff at the University of Bonn
